Inside the Journey | Hawaii 2024

Ever wished you could just escape to paradise for a while? Well, that’s exactly what I did! I spent four glorious weeks exploring the Hawaiian islands, soaking up the sun, hitting the links, and indulging in some seriously delicious food.

My Hawaiian journey began on the Big Island, where I had the pleasure of staying at the luxurious Four Seasons Hualalai. Talk about living the dream! With its pristine beaches, lush landscapes, and world-class amenities, this resort was the perfect home base for my two-week stay.

You know I couldn’t go to Hawaii without hitting the links a few times, right? And let me tell you, these weren’t just any courses – they were some of the most beautiful spots on the island! Hualalai, the resort’s own course, was a true gem. I even managed to shoot a personal best 84 there – not too shabby, if I do say so myself! And let’s not forget about Mauna Lani South, with its breathtaking ocean views and challenging layout.

But my Big Island adventure wasn’t all about golf. I also had the chance to explore the island’s diverse landscapes and rich culture. One day, I rented a Jeep and headed to the charming town of Holualoa, where I embarked on an ATV tour through the Aloha Adventure Farms. We learned about the fascinating history of the land, watched a local demonstrate the art of coconut husking, and even got to sample some delicious Hawaiian delicacies.

Another highlight of my Big Island experience was a stargazing trip to the summit of Mauna Kea. As we ascended the mountain, we were treated to panoramic views of the island, culminating in a breathtaking sunset at over 13,000 feet. And when the stars finally came out, it was like nothing I’d ever seen before. The sheer number and brilliance of the stars were simply awe-inspiring.

Of course, no trip to the Big Island is complete without a visit to Kealakekua Bay, a historic snorkeling spot teeming with marine life. I donned my mask and fins and dove into the crystal-clear waters, where I was greeted by a kaleidoscope of colorful fish, coral reefs, and even a few sea turtles. It was like swimming in an underwater paradise!After two weeks on the Big Island, it was time to hop over to Maui, another island paradise. I checked into the Four Seasons Maui, another stunning resort with all the bells and whistles. And let me tell you, the snorkeling at Molokini Crater was out of this world! I swam alongside sea turtles, spotted small sharks, and even witnessed the boat captain reel in a massive ono (wahoo) on our way back to shore.

Maui also delivered on the golf front. I played the Wailea Gold and Emerald courses, both of which were challenging and rewarding in their own ways. But the real highlight was Kapalua Plantation Course, a bucket-list course for any golf enthusiast. The views were incredible, the course was immaculate, and I even treated myself to one of the most unique and delicious eggs benedict dishes I’ve ever had at the Plantation House Restaurant, the Blackstone Benedict.

No trip to Maui is complete without a visit to Haleakala Volcano, and I was determined to experience it for myself. So, I rented an SUV and braved the winding roads to the summit. The views from the top were breathtaking, but let me tell you, those roads were no joke!

My final week in Hawaii was spent on Oahu, the “Gathering Place.” I stayed at the iconic Halekulani Hotel in Waikiki, a true oceanfront oasis. I spent my days swimming in the turquoise waters, strolling along Waikiki Beach, and capturing the beauty of the island with my camera.

Oahu’s culinary scene was a real treat for my taste buds. I sampled everything from fresh sushi to traditional Hawaiian dishes, and I was blown away by the quality and diversity of the food.

Reflections on Paradise

As my Hawaiian adventure came to an end, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the experiences I had and the memories I made. From the stunning natural beauty to the warm hospitality of the locals, Hawaii truly is a special place. And whether you’re a golfer, a beach bum, or simply a lover of adventure, there’s something for everyone in this island paradise.
